Richard Effiok, a 30-year-old man from Ikot Ewa in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, is now cooling his heels in the cell of the state Police Command after he was arrested for stabbing his girlfriend, identified as Bassey, to death during a disagreement over N1000 he was supposed to give her after an all night of sexual activity.
Effiok who was paraded at the state command headquarters, confessed to killing the lady because she refused to collect the merge amount of money he gave her after spending the night at his place on Friday, May 22, where they made love several times.
In his confession, the culprit said:
“Bassey was my lover and we have been dating for two years. She actually visited me that fateful night and we made love. The problem started when I had three rounds of sex with her and in the morning, I gave her N1,000 as transport fare back home, but she demanded for N5,000 and I told her I did not have such amount on me.
I can’t really say if I was tempted by the devil to kill her but when she refused to collect the N1,000 that I gave her, we started quarreling and it led to a fight. She broke a bottle and stabbed me on my head.
I rushed into the kitchen, brought a knife and stabbed her too. After stabbing her, she screamed and neighbors broke into my room.
They saw her on the ground in a pool of blood. Neighbors later rushed her to the hospital where she gave up the ghost The neighbors were the ones that called the police to arrest me. I regret my actions. I wish I did not kill her.”
